Internationally Recognized Soccer Player & Coach Joins Navarro College as Head Coach
Corsicana, Texas (PRWEB) June 15, 2015 -- Navarro College is excited to announce the addition of Head Soccer Coach Alicia Wilson to the Bulldog family. Wilson joins the college from the University of West Florida where she has served as assistant coach since 2013.
Last fall, Wilson helped lead the UWF women’s program to a 12-6 overall record, culminating in a berth in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Semifinals. Her career background also includes the position of graduate assistant coach from 2005 to 2007 when the Argonaut teams went 50-9-5 overall and 26-0 in league play.
Prior to her successful stint at UWF, Wilson enjoyed a decorated college and professional playing career. The 2001 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Player of the Year was a four-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NAIA All-American, and a four-time All GCAC performer at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS.
She then spent six years playing professionally in Iceland and Costa Rica and over 14 years playing on the Jamaican national team, representing the island country in qualifying tournaments and serving as team captain.
Wilson inherits one of the NJCAA’s premier women’s soccer programs producing 8 Region XIV Championships, 7 District Titles, 7 NJCAA National Tournament qualifications, and, most recently, earned back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2013 and 2014. The Bulldogs are 153-40-13 since 2003.
"I am very excited to become a part of the community of Corsicana and for the opportunities to bring diversity to the Navarro College soccer program as we continue to soar above and beyond the success that has already been established," said Coach Wilson.
Athletic Director Roark Montgomery stated, "The Navarro College athletic program is known for recruiting top talent capable of producing impressive results. We are excited about the experience and leadership Coach Wilson brings to the women’s soccer team and look forward to the continued success ahead."
Wilson graduated with a bachelor’s degree of science in psychology from William Carey University in 2005, and was awarded her master’s degree in exercise science from the University of West Florida in 2007. She will serve as head women’s soccer coach and assistant professor of kinesiology.
"Navarro College is committed to employing faculty and staff who contribute positively to our vision of achieving a higher standard of academic excellence," said District President Dr. Barbara Kavalier. "Not only does Coach Wilson bring an impressive resume to the college, she is dedicated to guiding students to better themselves in every aspect of life so they may have a positive impact on their surroundings. At Navarro College, we feel this is an important part of student success."
