Internet Expert Predicts That North America Will Run Out of IPv4 Addresses in Mid-Late 2014
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) July 29, 2013 -- Geoff Huston B.Sc., M.Sc., and Chief Scientist at the Regional Internet Registry serving the Asia Pacific region, has predicted that the American Registry of Internet Numbers (ARIN) will run out of IPv4 addresses between May and December of 2014. Huston, a guest contributor to The Kalorama Group’s blog, provides his analysis in “When?: 90% Likelihood IPv4 Exhaustion Within ARIN Region will Occur Between May And December 2014.”
“For some technology companies that do not have an IPv4 resource management plan beyond the next few quarters, exhaustion in the ARIN region will not be an issue until it is indeed an issue. However, at that point, viable, affordable options needed to alleviate pressure on their already overextended networks will not be on the table,” explains Josh Bourne, Co-General Manager at the technology advisory firm The Kalorama Group.
“At the other end of the spectrum, we have found that companies - those for which risk management is perhaps more integral to their five year strategic plan - are securing space today via the transfer market, which affords 2 years worth of space versus the 3 month allotment available from ARIN. ”
