Interrupted Education Inspires Author to Publish New Historical Fiction
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (PRWEB) September 28, 2013 -- Author Kwok Hon Kai publishes a brand new historical fiction inspired by his personal experiences, titled “A Hill and the Blue Sky.” This new novel springs from the author’s interrupted education during the British military administration and the Japanese Occupation. However, such unfortunate events did not deter him from his desire to achieve his dream of pursuing a solid education. As a Chinese proverb says, “A Jade stone is useless before it is processed; a man is good-for-nothing until he is educated.”
The book tells of events that can happen beyond one’s imagination and of things beyond one’s understanding. A man has to take chances no matter how slim the chances are and places himself in the hands of the Almighty addressed as God or Tao. The story revolves around the overall theme of forever forward looking; that future is never ending; that every generation has its own future; and every dark time has its own dawn.
Set in the island of Penang, a British Settlement, then outgrowing its birth place and venturing out into the whole wide world, the story follows the lifetime of an unkempt boy who knows nothing, plans for nothing and leaves everything to chance. It follows his extraordinary childhood journey surviving the Japanese occupation of Penang, his life-changing vision, faith and mission. Overall, it posits that there is truly an unseen guiding hand.
With the present news on borders dispute and sovereignty of islands briefly dealt with by the historic relocating of the capital of China, “A Hill and the Blue Sky” becomes a timeless read that bridges the past, present and the future. About the Author
Kwok Hon Kai was born in 1932 and lived through the Japanese Occupation. He studied in a missionary school, but during the chaotic time of the British military administration, he attended Chinese school for six months. He finished secondary school and obtained a telecommunications engineering diploma in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He worked in the telecoms department. He did a Telex course with Siemens in West Germany in 1971. Well into retirement, he obtained a Computer Science Hon. Degree from the Greenwich University London in 2004. The author walks daily to keep fit on advice of a doctor friend. He walks a minimum of three kilometers rain or shine, takes coffee with a pinch of salt in the morning, and takes a control amount of sugar, daily. He surfs the web and does gardening, growing herbs and a very hot chili for personal use. The author is a pensioner. Although the book was completed 10 years ago, the author has not written any other another book, but only basically translated it into Chinese with different emphases as the English version.
