Introduction of new iPhone models has increased number of iPhone recycling comparisons according to Compare and Recycle
(PRWEB UK) 31 January 2014 -- Prior to the launch of the newest iPhone models, 42% of comparisons between the most compared phones were Apple devices. But now, they account for just under half of comparisons thanks to loyal Apple customers who have upgraded. The most popular handset is the iPhone 4S 16GB with 15.9% of comparisons, with significantly fewer comparisons the iPhone 4 16GB is in second place with 9.4%.
A third of all handsets featured in the top 30 most compared phones are produced by Apple. Samsung are the second most compared manufacturer with just over 25% of comparisons, just over half as many as Apple. Samsung's most compared phone is the Galaxy S II which is the third most popular device with just under 8% of comparisons. The newer Samsung Galaxy III is not far behind with just over 7% of comparisons.
The increase in popularity of Sony handsets in the last 24 months is evidenced by the appearance of two Sony devices in the list of most compared phones. Only a few months ago, no Sony handsets ranked in the most compared handsets but the Japanese manufacturer has overtaken Nokia to become the 5th most compared brand on the Compare and Recycle website.
BlackBerry comparisons almost halved, dropping from over 22% to just under 12% among the most popular brands. With sales of new BlackBerry handsets dropping, the number of handsets available to recycle is dropping rapidly. Despite the drop, BlackBerry is still the third most compared manufacturer with the BlackBerry Touch 9900 as 10th most compared handset.
The Nokia Lumia 800 is the 15th most compared phone and is the only Nokia device featured in the list with the brand accounting for just under 2% of comparisons. HTC have also seen a decrease in comparisons although, not as severe as Nokia or BlackBerry. Just over 8.3% of phones compared were HTC handsets down from 11.4% prior to the launch of the iPhone 5s.
Both the Sony Xperia S and Xperia Z feature in the list pushing Sony ahead of Nokia both in number of devices in the list and percentage of comparisons. While only five brands featured in the list just a few months ago, there are now six although the huge gap between Apple and Samsung and the rest of the field shows that over the last 24 months, these two manufacturers have eaten away at the market share of other brands.
The iPhone 5S 15GB is the 16th most compared phone despite being on the market less than 6 months. Though this may suggest some unhappy customers, the high price offered for the latest iPhone may just be too tempting for some to resist even if they're not keen on parting with their mobile. As Apple's major rivals have not released any flagship devices since early last year, we may only be a few months away from the several major releases, which could have a big impact on the handsets being compared on the Compare and Recycle site.
