Invitation Homes Announces Winners of “There’s No Place Like Home” Scholarship Contest
DALLAS (PRWEB) December 13, 2018 -- Invitation Homes (NYSE: INVH) today announced the winning essays of its "There's No Place Like Home Scholarship” scholarship contest that asked high school seniors and college students to write about what they took – or are planning to take – to college to make their new environment feel like home and why the item is important to them. Each of the five winners will receive $1,000 toward college expenses.
“We loved reading the heartwarming stories about special mementos that these young adults will be taking with them from home to help their college space feel comfortable,” said Dallas Tanner, founder and interim president of Invitation Homes. “With everything from teddy bears to business cards, we see that ‘home’ is different for everyone and it’s special for all.”
Applicants were asked to submit an 800-word essay and were eligible to enter if he or she is a graduating high school senior or an enrolled freshman, sophomore or junior in college between the ages of 16 and 22. The contest received more than 700 submissions.

- Bryanna G., a college junior, entered an essay about a handwritten cookbook with family recipes she shares with her friends.
- Sahara S., a high school senior, wrote about the stuffed bee that her grandmother gave her in Iran.
- Autumn S., a college junior, wrote about the Improv Collective business cards that remind her of her found family.
- Jessica T., a college freshman, wrote about a spotted teddy bear called Sweetdreams that helped her sleep as a child.
- Trevor W., a college freshman, wrote about the letter his twin brother left him before enlisting in the Marines.
“We are especially pleased that one of our own Invitation Homes residents is among the winners,” Tanner said. “Jessica T. and her family have made an Invitation Homes house their home, and we’re delighted to offer this scholarship as she starts to call college home.”
