Iowa State Students Promote Physical Fitness on Campus Using the TrekDesk Treadmill Desk
Ames, IA (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Iowa State University has launched an initiative known as “ExerCYse is Medicine” as a nationwide program designed to illustrate the importance of movement and exercise in maintaining health. ExerCYse has launched a variety of programs including one called “TrekDesk” which utilizes the TrekDesk Treadmill Desk, allowing faculty and students the opportunity to walk while they work at their desk.
“A lot of people feel like they don’t have enough time to exercise,” reported Karissa Peyer, a graduate student in kinesiology, to the Iowa State Daily, “but every little bit helps.”
Peyer is among 200 student ambassadors promoting the ExerCYse initiative through the kinesiology department.
The TrekDesk initiative was specifically targeted towards students and faculty members that spend too much time sitting at desks, aiming to allow normally desk bound individuals an opportunity to keep moving during the day.
Iowa State Daily reports TrekDesks in use in buildings located all over the Iowa State University campus. The TrekDesk treadmill desks are available for all students to use and can even be found in the bowling alley of the Memorial Union. More information is available on the ExerCYse website at http://www.exercyse.org/trek-desk.html.
“We are really excited to see Iowa State’s ongoing commitment to their ExerCYse is Medicine campaign and are happy to be involved, offering students and faculty an opportunity to stay in motion while they work and study,” stated Steve Bordley, CEO of TrekDesk Treadmill Desk. “Iowa’s governor set a goal for his state to become the healthiest in the United States over the next five years, recognizing the economic necessity and advantage of supporting a healthy workforce and population. I am sure that the ExerCYse campaign will play an integral part in achieving that goal.”
Designed to fit any existing treadmill, TrekDesk treadmill desk is an affordable, full sized, height adjustable workstation that allows individuals the opportunity to gain the necessary amount of daily exercise to lose weight, maintain health, reduce stress, prevent disease, strengthen muscles, boost mood and productivity, without requiring additional time during the day or extra motivation.
