IP UtiliNET Partners with Nextek Power Systems to Create DC Powered Technology Solutions for Greater Business Efficiency
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- Nextek Power Systems, Inc., a pioneer in direct current (DC) power networks, is partnering with IP UtiliNET, a next generation technologies firm specializing in centrally managed communications, energy networks and security, to create next-generation systems designed to save money by improving power capacity and reducing unnecessary power consumption.
Recently, IP UtiliNET deployed Nextek’s power server module (PSM) direct current microgrid technology and two DC-powered overhead fans to help reduce thermal heat loss and improve control in a 100-year-old building housing Club Entrepreneur in College Park, Georgia. The 12,000 square foot facility is a full-service business center and entrepreneurial ecosystem providing flexible meeting space for start-up companies as well as a café and full-service copy center. IP UtiliNET installed its SustaNET© sustainable network platform to enable centralized management of all systems including lighting, high-speed Internet incorporating Gigabit Passive Optical Network topology, telephony, heating/cooling and security. IP UtiliNET incorporated its all-fiber LANvisn™ solution, an intelligent fiber fabric, to manage all services within a single fiber network.
“Nextek was the right partner for us when developing operational systems for Club Entrepreneur due to the company’s industry reputation and deep understanding of the functionality and cost-benefit of DC power networks,” said David Quinn, CEO of IP UtiliNET. “Nextek’s technology meshes well with our next generation systems, and we can scale the solution up or down depending on our needs.”
Nextek’s PSMs and DC microgrid are incorporated into IP UtiliNET’s DSIMpower© system, which dynamically determines the most energy efficient input source and shifts from grid-supplied AC power to alternative energy sources such as DC electricity. In addition, Nextek provided the LED lighting system, which uses advanced power infrastructure to convert the supplied AC to DC to power the lights and fans. The combined solutions reduced a 600 AMP panel requirement to five 20 AMP breakers, which are controlled by individual PSMs.
The end result of the integrated technologies was a 60 percent reduction in power consumption and a significantly lower monthly power bill.
“DC powered microgrid systems enable customers to control power output and ensure it is delivered to critical loads independent of the AC utility grid, while storing unused power to reduce the impact of peak loads,” said Jeff Daudert, Key Accounts Manager, Nextek Power Systems. “Where thermal heat loss typically occurs in the AC to DC conversion process as well as from heat generated by standard lighting systems, DC microgrid technology creates generation efficiency, reduced power consumption and lower costs.”
