Is the New Year Resolution A Thing of the Past? Almost half the UK didn’t make one and 40% that did have failed already
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 28 January 2014 -- http://www.savoo.co.uk - It’s not yet the end of the first month of the New Year and already most of the UK has given up on its resolutions - if they even made any. A staggering 44% of UK adults said that their lives were too hectic to make any this year and almost 40% who did make a resolution have already given up according to research from voucher code website Savoo.co.uk – begging the question, “Is the UK losing its much valued Bulldog spirit?”
For those willing to push themselves, the most popular resolution made was to lose weight; adding to the theory the UK is quickly becoming an overweight, exhausted and lazy nation particularly among young people with 43% of young people wanting to lose weight.
Another worrying statistic is that 40% of the UK felt they needed to save more money or spend less money this year, proving that consumerism and debt is also not going away even with signs of an economic recovery.
If it weren’t for women the statistics would be even more worrying with men really letting the UK down when it comes to attempting to improve their lives. More than half of men didn’t make a resolution compared to 38% of women. The only good news is that the young people of today seem to be more conscious of self-improvement with only 30% of 16-24 year olds not making a resolution.
Resolution Male Female
Didn’t make one 51% 38%
Eat healthily 12% 24%
Get fitter 11% 16%
Resolution Age 16-24 55-100
Didn’t make one 29% 53%
Simon Bird, General Manager of Savoo.co.uk said, “To say we were shocked at the results is an understatement. People seem to be burying their heads in the sand when it comes to their weight and finance problems – two aspects of life that need to be in good shape.”
To make matters worse, it appears those giving up on their resolutions are losing money as a result. 45% of those who had given up on their challenges said they had already lost between £20 - £60 with Northern Ireland the biggest culprits with an amazing 63% of those giving up losing up to £40 already.
