ISTE Launches Digital Citizenship Academy
WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- Digital tools, including social media, are powerful tools for learning. But, as educators harness the possibilities, they also grapple with ensuring their safe and ethical use. To support educators as they explore the implications of digital citizenship, the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE®) today launched the Digital Citizenship Academy. This series of online modules is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issues surrounding digital citizenship and how to address them in schools.
The Digital Citizenship Academy is built on the foundation of the ISTE Standards for learning, teaching and leading in the digital age, which identify what digital citizenship means for administrators, technology coaches, teachers and students. The Academy’s six online modules provide resources, videos and lesson plans that will help educators use digital tools appropriately and address digital citizenship issues in their schools and districts. The courses also provide ideas for collaborating with other groups, such as families and community members, to help student and parents become better digital citizens.
“For educators to prepare students to be good digital citizens, it is crucial that they have a clear understanding of the many components of digital citizenship and consistently model the behavior.” said Wendy Drexler, ISTE Chief Innovation Officer. “The new Digital Citizenship Academy will help educators explore the complex issues around digital citizenship and cultivate a learning environment in which the development of these important life skills is fostered in all students.”
The Academy was developed by Mike Ribble, co-author of ISTE’s best-selling “Digital Citizenship in Schools” and “Raising a Digital Child.” A lifelong educator, Ribble has served as a classroom biology teacher, secondary school administrator, network manager for a community college and a university instructor.
Now through November 30, educators who enroll in all six modules of the Digital Citizenship Academy and purchase “Digital Citizenship in Schools,” will receive a 20 percent discount on the bundle. For more information, visit http://www.iste.org/resources/product?id=3197
