IT Employment Up in December, Report Says
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 31, 2017 -- The IT industry added 10,300 jobs in December, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, January 6, 2017.
“December’s job gains are a significant jump from November’s readjusted numbers,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “November’s preliminary gains were readjusted to 2,500 from the 7,700 initially reported. When reviewed, losses in data processing increased and gains in computer systems design and technical consulting decreased, resulting in a 67.5 percent drop.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not report on one collected IT industry in its monthly employment report. Instead, job data is gathered from multiple subsectors belonging to different sectors, including the data processing, hosting and related services subsector, the computer electronic product manufacturing subsector, the computer systems design and related services subsector, and the management and technical consulting services subsector.
Last month, employment within the data processing, hosting and related services subsector increased by 1,600 jobs after losing 2,500 jobs in November.
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector lost 900 jobs in December, after gaining only 400 in November.
Larger increases were reported within computer systems design and related services, and management and technical consulting services, which increased by 4,100 and 5,500 jobs respectively.
