IT Job Gains Down 40 Percent In October
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) December 01, 2016 -- The various sectors that form the IT industry gained 12,200 jobs in October, a 40 percent drop over gains made in September, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, November 4, 2016.
“Unlike finance or healthcare, there is no separate IT sector,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “Instead, IT jobs are factored into multiple sectors, and therefore susceptible to employment trends that occur within those sectors. For instance, computer manufacturing continued to lose jobs, while jobs in computer systems design continued to increase.”
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector lost 1,000 jobs in October and 2,000 jobs in September. “This subsector has lost jobs every month of 2016, and over 15,000 jobs in the past year,” said Rollins. “Comparatively, the computer systems designs sector gained 8,300 jobs in October, and 78,600 jobs over the past year.”
Management and technical consulting gained 4,700 jobs in October, down from the 15,200 jobs gained in September. Over the last year, the sector has gained 86,800 jobs.
Data processing, hosting and related services continued to change little from the previous month, gaining only 200 jobs. Over the past 12 months, the industry has only gained 1,700 jobs.
