IT Job Growth Up 500 Percent in April With 27,800 Jobs Gained
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 01, 2016 -- The number of IT jobs grew by 27,800 for the month of April, according to the latest employment numbers from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics released on Friday, May 6, 2016.
According to the Economic Situation Report, the IT industry’s job growth is up by more than 500 percent over March’s gain of 4,300 jobs. IT job data is collected from multiple sectors, including the data processing, hosting and related services subsector, the computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector, the computer systems design and related services subsector, and the management and technical consulting services subsector.
Data processing, hosting and related services is the only IT-related sector which lost jobs in April, dropping 600 jobs after gaining 700 in March. The subsector now sits at 297,900 jobs, a modest increase from the 292,700 jobs reported in April 2015.
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector gained 500 jobs in April, after losing 3,000 in March. Over the last 12 months, the subsector has lost 10,400 jobs while the unemployment rate has dropped from 4.5 to 2.8 percent.
Computer systems design and related services, a part of the professional and business services sector gained 7,300 jobs in April, a 69 percent increase over March’s gain of 4,300 jobs. Over the past year, the subsector has increased by 87,700 jobs, or 4.6 percent.
The IT industry’s largest gains occurred within management and technical consulting services which gained 20,600 jobs in April, an increase of 18,300 jobs over March’s employment gains.
