Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 30, 2015 -- The IT industry gained 4,200 jobs across several sectors for the month of March, according to the latest employment numbers from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics released on Friday, April 3, 2015.
March’s job numbers in the data processing, hosting and related services industry showed little growth, increasing by only 0.51 percent or 1,500 jobs for the second month in a row. The subsector now sits at 293,300 jobs. Over the last 12 months the industry has increased by 6.9 percent, from 274,400 in March 2014. This industry data includes computer programmers, computer support specialists, computer systems analysts, application developers, and systems software developers.
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector, which includes computer hardware engineers, computer software engineers (applications and systems software), electrical and electronic engineering technicians and equipment assemblers, and semiconductor processors, decreased by 0.11 percent or 1,200 jobs over the previous month. Computer systems design and related services, a part of the professional and business services sector, grew by 0.21 percent or 3,900 jobs in March.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 126,000 jobs in March, while the unemployment rate went unchanged at 5.5 percent. Over the last 12 months, employment growth has averaged 269,000 jobs per month. Job gains primarily occurred within professional and business services (+40,000 jobs), retail trade (+26,000 jobs) and health care (+22,000 jobs).
After revisions, total nonfarm payroll employment for the month of January and February were revised from 239,000 to 201,000 jobs, and 295,000 to 264,000 jobs, respectively. With these revisions, employment gains in January and February were 69,000 less than previously reported. Over the past 3 months, job gains have averaged 197,000 per month.
