Italy & Malta Oil and Gas 2013 Summit, 30th-31st October, Grand Hotel & Spa Parco dei Principi, Rome
(PRWEB UK) 19 November 2013 -- Held under the auspices of Ministry for Energy and the Conservation of Water of Malta the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Business of Malta, the event gathered key Italian, Maltese and international executives, energy experts, economists and senior representatives from many IOCs and service companies looking to get involved in the upcoming developments.
On the first day of the Summit, Nicolò Di Gaetano, the coordinator of Legal Affairs and Institutional Relations Department of the Italian Regulatory Authority for Electricity and Gas (AEEG), spoke about the recent evolutions in the Italian gas market and highlighted the necessity for a more competitive Italian energy market in order to let European consumers benefit from liberalization, revealing details of the Trans-Adriatic pipeline that will provide EU/EnC with Caspian gas through Greece, Albania, and Italy.
The TAP Project was thoroughly addressed by the Country Manager of TAP Italy, Giampaolo Russo. TAP will be the first pipeline to open the Southern Gas Corridor, and is designed to expand from 10 to 20 bcm (plus) per year in terms of capacity, connected directly to TANAP on the Turkish-Greek border, delivering gas and interconnecting multiple markets in Western and Central Europe.
Paolo Martini, the Chairman of the Summit, spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of exploration and production in Italy, and highlighted the fact that Italy still has a significant exploration potential, stating that it’s still possible to manage its production decline through an effective collaboration between oil companies and authorities.
Dr. Mario Rodgers, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Energy and the Conservation of Water, gave a speech on Malta as being an oil and natural gas hub in the Mediterranean with onshore oil storage an offshore bunkering. The location of the country allows it to be a connected to the European Grid with the Project of Common Interest (PCI) for Natural Gas Interconnection and the 200MW Malta- Sicily Electrical Interconnector. The country also has strong international relations through its bilateral agreements with neighbouring North African countries, double taxation agreements, fast track visa processing and competitive tax bands for executives in this industry. The Memorandum of Understandings was also recently signed with Libya and China.
