On October 10, “Tech & Learning” magazine will host a live discussion on project-based learning (PBL). The presenter, PBL leader Jeff Robin, will offer a detailed explanation of the practice to attendees and provide examples from his 27 years of teaching experience.
Robin will outline the differences between PBL and project-oriented learning, and explain how the former supports the development of 21st century skills. He will also explain his process for designing a PBL curriculum.
Robin is a founding faculty member of High Tech High, a San Diego charter school that opened in 2000 and has since evolved into an integrated network of 13 charter schools that serves approximately 5,300 students in grades K-12 across three campuses. Students connect their studies to the world through fieldwork, community service, internships and consultation with outside experts. High Tech High is lauded as a model example of how formal education can embrace inquiry-based, truly student-driven, project-based learning.
Robin remained an active collaborative project-based learning teacher with High Tech High until 2017. He leads PBL workshops around the world, is a contributing blogger for “Education Week” and remains a practicing artist. Interested parties can find him online at http://www.jeffrobin.com.
