IVCi Achieves Gold Rating from STEP, Sustainable Technology Environments Program
Hauppauge, NY (PRWEB) January 15, 2015 -- IVCi, LLC (http://www.ivci.com), a leading provider of collaboration services and solutions, today announced its accomplishment of a gold level rating with STEP, Sustainable Technology Environments Program.
STEP, a nonprofit organization, focuses on providing a system for technology providers as a guide for the planning and implementation of sustainable practices in their technology projects. Unlike most green building rating system codes, STEP addresses the sustainable planning, design, integration and operation of low-voltage building and communication technologies.
IVCi entered the STEP program with the design of Duke University’s Environment Hall at the Nicolas School of the Environment (NSOE). This project was the first of its kind, providing an immersive, interactive learning experience for local and remote participants across the globe. The success was driven by the core telepresence and audiovisual technology with green principles deployed throughout eighteen rooms. The project included multiple classrooms, computer labs, conference rooms, an art gallery, boardroom, lecture hall and other rooms. The implementation of tele-learning and video conferencing allowed Duke to reduce travel, making substantial cost and energy reductions while improving efficiency, productivity and collaboration.
STEP allows for a maximum of 159 points to be earned by completing a combination of phases classified as the following; planning/program, architectural and infrastructure design, system design, system integration, and operation phase. Some of the goals within the phases included reusing materials and equipment, minimizing energy consumption, using green materials, reducing paper consumption, reducing travel and waste.
This project received special acknowledgement for not only achieving the highest level of recognition from STEP, but for efficiency in meeting the credit requirement. The team, led by IVCi’s Robert Mathews CTS-D and Duke University’s Environmental post graduates, Gary Gao and Drew Nitschke, evaluated the programs credit requirements and were able to prioritize goals, consolidate achievements and efficiently generate processes for a more efficient means to meet STEP’s sustainability, travel and energy saving objectives.
“We are incredibly excited to have achieved Gold STEP. Green Building initiatives continue to be a big priority for our customers and creating a sustainable design, that reduces waste and minimizes energy consumption is a big win for Duke,” said Timothy Hennen, SVP Audio Visual Integrated Service if IVCi. We look forward to continuing our work in creating green collaboration environments for our customers.
