Jack Donahue Is Proud to Officially Announce His Candidacy for Representative of the 75th Pennsylvania House District
(PRWEB) February 18, 2014 -- Jack is a resident of Treasure Lake, Sandy Township, Clearfield County along with his wife and daughter. He understands the values that must be brought to the forefront in Harrisburg in order to get our Commonwealth back on the right track and away from the failed policies currently in place.
There are three key issues that Jack believes are most important to the residents of his district – properly funding education, creating a balance between economic development and environmental protection, and refocusing Harrisburg’s budget priorities while reigning in wasteful spending. He feels strongly that leadership in Harrisburg has failed to represent the values of the citizens of Clearfield and Elk Counties. Therefore, he is asking his friends and neighbors to send him to Harrisburg and be part of the solution.
Jack is a proud product of our public school system. He also earned his degree from the Pennsylvania State University. As an advocate for public education, Jack is outraged at the drastic cuts made by Governor Corbett and his party’s leaders in Harrisburg. If elected, Jack will fight to restore full appropriations to our state universities and public schools. He stated, “We can improve the state’s education system with a more communicative approach and make teaching a more rewarding, satisfying, economy driving profession. We will bring back the young professionals and create jobs through education.”
The second issue important to our area involves economic development and the Marcellus Shale drilling in our communities. Jack has strong beliefs on this matter and wants to help bring about common sense regulations and policies regarding gas drilling. For starters, he supports a tax on the gas that is extracted by the drillers. Every other state with similar drilling has this tax and those states’ governments benefit financially without harming the industry’s growth. Recently however, Harrisburg decided it was a better idea for citizens to pay for the 2013 state transportation bill with a 28 cent gasoline tax increase. Jack believes that is wrong and it’s time that the gas companies pay their fair share. He also believes that through effective investment in new forms of energy we can jumpstart the local economy. He says in part, “by building the country’s largest most sophisticated energy grid, which is capable of utilizing coal, oil, natural gas, wind, solar - whatever we see fit, we will create jobs right here by building networks in our neighborhoods and our backyards.” We must support the industries we have in our local towns and cities while at the same time be looking for opportunities to grow with tomorrow’s technologies.
Finally, Harrisburg and our current state representative have it all wrong when it comes to handling our tax dollars. Jack is fed up with legislative handouts and wasteful state government spending. In the first six months of 2013, the 75th district’s current state representative claimed $7,550 in per diems which paid for lodging and food. That’s over $15,000 on an annualized basis! Legislators are already paid $82,026 a year, considerably higher than the median income of the families back home in his district. Jack asks, “How much more can taxpayers afford to put out for legislators that take money for fancy dinners and hotels when they fail to assist communities in times of need?” The corruption and waste must stop, and if Jack is elected, he will fight to get the per diem situation under control. At the same time, he wants to know where much needed state funding was for parts of the 75th District when it was flooded briefly in 2013. When we needed help, it was nowhere to be found. State investment in our region is lacking while other parts of the state are receiving millions in state dollars to assist local municipal, economic and community development projects. That begs the question “Why aren’t we seeing similar investments here?” We need a state representative that will fight to get the 75th District its fair share. That person is Jack Donahue.
Jack looks forward to visiting every community in the 75th District and hearing from constituents about the issues that matter most.
