Jackson Hole WinterFest Announces 19 Days of Fun-in-the-Snow Activities in Jackson, Wyoming
Jackson Hole, Wyoming (PRWEB) January 20, 2016 -- Playing in the snow is second nature to the people of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the mountain resort is reporting 18 feet and counting of the white stuff already this season. So where better to experience the best of winter fun than the Jackson Hole WinterFest celebration, Jan. 29 – Feb. 16, 2016. By dog, horse, skis, snowboard and snowmobile, Jackson locals and visitors alike will take to the snow for the town’s sixth annual festival, offering 19 days of family-friendly activities, some with a nod to the area’s renowned “last of the Old West” heritage.
This year the festival kicks off Jan. 29 with sled dog teams mushing out of Town Square and through the streets of Jackson to Snow King Mountain for a public party finish to the first stage of the EUKANUBA™ Stage Stop Race. Other popular WinterFest events include the Cutter Races, where horse-drawn chariots known as “cutters” race through the snow at Melody Ranch, Feb. 13 and 14. The annual Ski Joring competition, where skiers are pulled behind galloping horses through an exciting course of jumps and turns, will be held at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort this year to help celebrate the resort’s 50th anniversary. Proceeds for both equine events benefit the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital for Children.
Festivalgoers can also enjoy ice skating on the beautifully lit Town Square daily during WinterFest, and take in ski racing events such as Pica’s Margarita run, an exciting adult ski racing series held on Friday nights under the lights at Snow King Mountain. For more ski racing, head to Snow King Feb. 13 – 16 for the Wild West Classic where FIS level racers come from all over the world to compete in Alpine slalom racing events. Those who prefer their winter entertainment indoors will want to check out the Center for the Arts, where the talented Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn perform Feb. 5.
