SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (PRWEB) January 04, 2018 -- The Springfield Business Journal (SBJ) has revealed its annual list of 40 rising professionals under 40 years old. Among those honored in 2018 is Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center’s Jacob Thomas, MD, FACS.
The SBJ 40 Under 40 awards program made its debut in 1999 and continues to honor individuals for their professional and community accomplishments. Dr. Thomas has earned his place among Springfield’s leading professionals by serving his community both inside and outside his surgical eye care practice. Through his service on various community boards, such as the American Diabetes Association and Vision Rehab Center of the Ozarks, he has helped raise awareness for eye disease in his community and helped those with serious eye disease gain access to resources to improve their quality of life. He has also volunteered to lead eye education labs at local middle schools and high schools to help inspire the next generation of Springfield youth to pursue scientific careers.
“I’ve been very fortunate to be able to participate in a number of local organizations over the years,” says Dr. Thomas, “but the efforts I am most proud of involve the evolution of Mattax Neu Prater’s culture. Healthcare is continually evolving with various regulatory changes and technological advances. Through it all, our employees have been truly amazing. We have so many talented individuals in our organization who have dedicated their careers to allowing the doctors at Mattax Neu Prater to provide the highest quality care to the people of our community. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
A Drury University graduate who earned his medical degree from University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, Dr. Thomas specializes in LASIK, corneal transplantation, and cataract surgery at Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center. He also practices comprehensive ophthalmology, managing conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Dr. Thomas is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is the first in the region to perform DMEK, the latest evolution in partial thickness corneal transplants.
