Jameis Winston Presented 2013 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy
Tallahassee, FL (PRWEB) April 14, 2014 -- Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was presented with the 2013 College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Year Trophy during the Florida State spring game on April 12, 2014. CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith was on hand to present the award at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.
The 2013 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy was presented during a special halftime ceremony. Winston accepted the award at midfield to a standing ovation and posed for photos with Florida State University Cheerleaders.
Placekicker Roberto Aguayo and return specialist Levonte Whitfield were also honored during the halftime ceremony. Aguayo was presented with the 2013 CFPA Placekicker Trophy, while Whitfield was presented with the 2013 CFPA Elite Kickoff Returner Trophy.
Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher and 2012 CFPA Elite Specialist Trophy winner Dustin Hopkins participated in the halftime ceremony. Hopkins presented Aguayo with the 2013 CFPA Placekicker Trophy, while Head Coach Jimbo Fisher congratulated each recipient at midfield.
"I'm so proud of Roberto and what he's done," said former Seminoles kicker Dustin Hopkins. "Having the CFPA shirt on and presenting the trophy to Roberto, the one that I just won last year, is kind of surreal."
CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy:
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston earned the CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy and CFPA National Freshman Performer of the Year Trophy in the same season (2013). Winston is the second FBS player to accomplish the feat, following former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel (2012). Previous CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy winners include: Matt Barkley (USC), Cam Newton (Auburn), and Ryan Mallett (Arkansas).
Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams earned the 2013 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy. Adams follows previous winners: Colton Chapple (Harvard), Taylor Heinicke (Old Dominion), and Pat Devlin (Delaware).
Adams was recently presented the 2013 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy during a home men's basketball game in Cheney, Washington.
"It's a heavy trophy, but it's a good one -- a good one for our program," said Adams. "I just want to win two more national championships, and I'll be good having this trophy right next to those two."
2013 CFPA FCS Tight End Award:
Southern Illinois tight end MyCole Pruitt earned the 2013 CFPA FCS Tight End Award. Pruitt is the second Southern Illinois player to earn CFPA honors, following former Salukis defensive back Korey Lindsey.
"It's a huge honor for me. The last couple of years, I've kept up with the award just to see who my competition was," said Pruitt. "It's a very good award for me to win, and it makes me very proud."
About College Football Performance Awards:
The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-one CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
