James Scott Farrin Sponsors Durham Running of the Bulls for 5th Year
Durham, NC (PRWEB) June 08, 2017 -- The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin was the primary sponsor for the 9th annual Running of the Bulls 8K community road race and USA Track & Field 8K Championship in downtown Durham, Saturday, June 3rd at the Durham Athletic Park.
As in years past, this event was an official USA Track & Field 8K Championship race, and attracted nearly 1,500 elite and recreational runners.
James Scott Farrin Attorney Cristen Bartus, firm volunteer organizer said, “The race is one of the hallmark events in Downtown Durham. You see folks wearing those race t-shirts year ‘round. Whether you run or volunteer, it’s an opportunity to take part in a tremendous community gathering.”
Every year the Running of the Bulls 8K contributes event proceeds to a local non-profit. This year’s beneficiary is Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers (TROSA). To date, the event has netted more than $25,000 among DurhamCares, Habitat for Humanity, and TROSA.
Race directors and owners of Bull City Running Co., Jason Page and Kim Chapman, created the race nine years ago. Kim said, “We are so grateful that James Scott Farrin has continued to support this annual community event. Not only does their financial support help make this race possible, but they also contribute a number of volunteers to work one of the aid stations on the course, and many runners from the firm participate every year.”
The couple’s passion for running and for downtown Durham’s historic architecture and history prompted them to initiate this event so others might come together and appreciate it too. The picturesque 8-kilometer (4.97-mile) route wound through historic and revitalized neighborhoods of downtown Durham, American Tobacco Campus, Trinity Park, and Old North Durham. It ended with a lap of the warning track and kids’ fun run inside the historic Durham Athletic Park.
In addition to being the 2017 Banner Sponsor, several James Scott Farrin employees manned a water station where they handed out water, cheered on runners, and took photos, which are on the firm’s Facebook page. And as in years past, other Farrin employees participated in the race as runners.
