Jason Alexander to Replace Mandy Patinkin in Baltimore Symphony Orchestra SuperPops Program, January 22-25
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) July 29, 2014 -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) regrets to announce that due a schedule conflict resulting from participation in an upcoming Broadway production, Mandy Patinkin has withdrawn from his engagement with the Orchestra, slated for January 22 at The Music Center at Strathmore and January 23-25, 2015 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. In his place, the BSO welcomes actor Jason Alexander, best known for his portrayal as George Costanza on the hit series “Seinfeld,” in addition to his lengthy Broadway career. BSO Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly will conduct the program, featuring music and humor as Alexander reminisces about his remarkable and versatile career on the stage and screen, and performs songs from several Broadway favorites, including Music Man, Pippin and Merrily We Roll Along.

Jason Alexander is undoubtedly best known for his iconic portrayal of hapless George Costanza on the legendary hit show “Seinfeld.” The series continues to play around the world, showcasing the reason Mr. Alexander received seven Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nominations, two American Television Awards, two American Comedy Awards and two Screen Actor Guild awards for his indelible work. But his career is one that defines diversity in every form – acting, producing, directing, writing and in every media.
Initially focusing on the Broadway stage, Mr. Alexander has starred in the original production of Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along as well as The Rink, Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound and Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, a musical revue that Mr. Alexander both authored and starred in, playing 14 different roles each night and for which he won a Drama Desk, Outer Critic Circle and Tony Award for Best Musical Actor. Even after moving to Los Angeles, he continued his dedication to the theater by becoming the artistic director of the Reprise Theatre Company and triumphantly starring with Martin Short in the LA production of Mel Brooks’ The Producers.
Jack Everly
Jack Everly is the principal pops conductor of the Baltimore and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), and the music director of the National Memorial Day Concert and “A Capitol Fourth” on PBS. He has been on stage with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall and appears regularly with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center. His frequent guest conducting engagements include the orchestras of Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Oklahoma City.
Everly is the music director of Yuletide Celebration, now a 26-year tradition. These theatrical symphonic holiday concerts are presented annually in December in Indianapolis and are seen by more than 40,000 concert-goers. He led the ISO in its first Pops recording, Yuletide Celebration, Volume One, which included three of his own arrangements.
Originally appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Everly was conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, where he served as music director. In addition to his ABT tenure, he teamed with Marvin Hamlisch in Broadway shows that Mr. Hamlisch scored, including The Goodbye Girl, They’re Playing Our Song and A Chorus Line. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions.
Everly has conducted the songs for Disney’s animated classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame and led the Czech Philharmonic on the recordings In the Presence, featuring tenor Daniel Rodriguez and Sandi Patty’s 2011 release Broadway Stories. He also conducted the critically-praised Everything’s Coming Up Roses: The Complete Overtures of Broadway’s Jule Styne, and was music director for numerous Broadway cast recordings.
In 1998, Everly created the Symphonic Pops Consortium, serving as music director. The Consortium, based in Indianapolis, produces new theatrical pops programs, and in the past 13 years, more than 250 performances of SPC programs have taken place across the U.S. and Canada.
Maestro Everly holds an honorary doctorate of arts from Franklin College in his home state of Indiana.
