Jason Hope Indicates Underwater Internet Cited in Recent FutureGov Article Could Be Level of Next Internet of Things
Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- The Internet of Things has been connecting people and technology with the Internet across the globe at an incredibly fast rate. Yet land is just one venue through which the Internet of Things is taking hold. As noted in a recent article on FutureGov, underwater WiFi, and the connectivity that it would bring, is just around the corner. Jason Hope, futurist and entrepreneur from Scottsdale, Arizona, indicates this could be the next area of growth for the growing Internet of Things.
According to the article, entitled "Underwater WiFi Expands Internet of Things," researchers are now investigating the underwater potential of WiFi. Manu Ignatius of Subnero discussed how the technology could be used on submarines to connect to land-based Internet. "With underwater WiFi," he said, "you can just deploy your sensor and they can communicate together without a human in the loop." This would eliminate the expense and risk of sending a diver down to check on underwater equipment.
"This is an example of how the Internet of Things is going to change the way businesses of all types operate," stated Jason Hope in response to the article. "Today, we have to send divers underwater to connect with underwater equipment, but in the near future we can connect electronically."
Underwater WiFi also has a role to play in defense technology. Submarines will no longer be able to infiltrate coastal areas undetected, because WiFi equipped sensors can be placed in strategic locations to spot them. Smart cities on coastal areas will be able to monitor tidal conditions, while communities near inland bodies of water can use the technology to monitor for flooding potential.
"The potential for underwater WiFi is staggering when you start to think about all of the implications of this technology," says Jason Hope. "It just goes to prove that the Internet of Things really has far-reaching potential."
