Jennifer Hudson and the Cleveland Orchestra Headline a New Initiative Benefiting the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) February 27, 2014 -- WHO: COMP (Children’s Opportunities for Music Participation) is a 2014 community outreach initiative of the Butler School of Music (BSOM) at the University of Texas at Austin, in partnership with Robert F. Smith of Vista Equity Partners. The initiative is designed to provide musical instruments and music instruction to young people across the greater Austin area, specifically in underprivileged school communities where access is limited. Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs addressing both the practical and theoretical disciplines that make the music industry so rich and diverse.
WHAT: Jennifer Hudson, the Academy Award and Grammy winning recording artist, actress and spokesperson, will perform at a Private Patron Reception to launch the COMP Program on Thursday, February 27.
On Sunday, March 2, The Cleveland Orchestra will headline a Charity Gala Concert to conclude the Menuhin Competition, the world’s leading international violin competition for young players. Directed by Giancarlo Guerro, The Cleveland Orchestra has become one of the most sought-after performing ensembles in the world and is considered one of the most important orchestras in the United States. During the performance, Menuhin Competition winners will share the stage with The Cleveland Orchestra. The COMP program is supported by the generosity of Robert F. Smith of Vista Equity Partners, who envisions a program that will spark a flame of innovation and foster a lifetime love of music in Austin youth.
The Menuhin Competition's Closing Gala Concert featuring the Cleveland Orchestra will be broadcast via a live video stream. The performance occurs on Sunday, March 2nd at 7:00pm. During the stream, listeners will have the opportunity to support the COMP program.
