Jim Olson Looks to Develop the Original Break-A-Leg Talking Key Chain with Funding Assistance via Kickstarter
Royal Oak, MI (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- The idea actually originated when Jim Olson’s son was 9 years old. He had gotten a taste of show business by accompanying Jim to Los Angeles and New York when Jim was shooting television commercials he had written for various blue chip clients like McDonald's, General Mills and Dodge. Jim’s son ripped the leg off one of his action figures, threaded the leg onto a key ring, and then gave it to his Dad for Christmas. When Jim opened his gift, he proudly announced, “Break a leg, Dad!”
Skipping ahead 10 years, a very talented friend- who was a singer and actress- saw it and said, “Jim, you could make a lot of money with that leg. Every person in show business will want one!”
That got Jim’s creative juices flowing. He wondered if there was a way to give the idea well… more leg...by having it actually say, “Break A Leg, kid!” So, he hired both a product developer and artist and the leg started taking shape. The outcome was a 4-inch plastic dancer’s leg featuring a sexy stiletto heel and a button at the top that when pushed played “Break A Leg, kid!” through a small speaker hidden in the thigh.
What gave the leg even more uniqueness was the idea to add a real cotton leg warmer that could be made in various colored and themed fabrics. These leg warmers would allow the leg to be personalized.
Focus groups demonstrated that men were interested in getting in on the fun too. The theatre leg designed for men received boffo reviews but another market for the leg emerged: THE FIGHT SONG LEG! Meant to appeal to college athletes and their rabid fans, the Fight Song leg is a leg designed for a particular sport and plays the teams fight song.
After 3 years in development and thousands of dollars spent on product development, design, and prototypes, Jim has decided to reach out to the theater and sports loving fans around the world for help. This project will ONLY be funded if at least $35,000 is pledged by Sun, Mar 23rd, 2014 at 10:05 PM EST.
