Job Training Nonprofit Year Up Launches #MyYearUp Video Contest to Celebrate 15-Year Anniversary and Students’ Achievements
Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 05, 2015 -- Recognizing its students’ incredible journeys from poverty to the middle-class, the job training nonprofit Year Up has launched the #MyYearUp video campaign to showcase student and alumni stories about their experiences at the program, as well as stories from Year Up leaders and partners about the opportunity that changed their lives.
As part of the campaign, Year Up is holding a #MyYearUp video contest featuring students and alumni from each Year Up site. Viewers are invited to vote for their favorite video at http://www.myyearup.org/videos. The student whose video receives the most votes will win a $25,000 investment fund as well as the chance to work with a professional filmmaker on a new promotional video for Year Up. The top three finalists will attend Year Up’s Opportunity Gala in New York City on October 5, 2015. Voting is open from now until August 31, 2015.
“The students at Year Up are some of the most talented, determined young adults you’ll ever meet,” said Gerald Chertavian, Year Up Founder and CEO. “Their stories are truly inspiring in terms of the challenges they’ve overcome and the amazing things they’ve accomplished. They’re changing perceptions of what talent looks like across the country, opening doors for more young adults like themselves to enter professional careers in growing industries.”
Voters can choose their favorite filmmaker from the seventeen featured stories and vote via text message. The winner will be announced during the Opportunity Gala on October 5, 2015 in New York City, where the three finalists will join more than 1,000 Year Up stakeholders to celebrate the program’s impact and future growth.
The #MyYearUp video contest and campaign are part of Year Up’s fifteenth anniversary celebration. The innovative nonprofit launched in Boston in 2000 and has since expanded to 14 cities, with new sites added every year. Year Up students receive six months of technical and professional skills training, followed by a six-month internship at a corporate partner firm. Nationwide, 85 percent of Year Up graduates are employed or attending college full-time within four months of graduation, earning average starting salaries of $32,000/year.
