JobPath Teams Up with Uber to Help Veterans Find Employment
Trenton, NJ (PRWEB) December 02, 2015 -- JobPath, one of the fastest growing resources for veteran employment in the country, is announcing a new initiative with Uber NJ and The GI Go Fund to promote economic opportunity for military veterans in New Jersey. Uber will donate free rides for veterans attending job interviews obtained through use of the JobPath web portal. The partnership will also work to sign up veterans as drivers on the Uber platform.
"For so many veterans returning from overseas, finding steady work can be a major challenge," said Jack Fanous, CEO of JobPath and Executive Director of the GI Go Fund. "By partnering with Uber, we'll be able to make sure these men and women have a real opportunity to provide for themselves and their families."
In New Jersey, nearly 1,000 veterans currently drive with Uber. Last year, Uber announced its national UberMILITARY program, which aims to on-board 50,000 members of the military as drivers over the next 18 months.
"Uber is honored to be helping former service members in New Jersey get back to work," said Ana Mahony, General Manager for Uber New Jersey, "Having a reliable, affordable ride to an interview can make all the difference, and in terms of the veterans who now drive with Uber, we've found that our military partners are often those with the highest ratings."
"I commend Uber and The GI Go Fund for working together to address the economic challenges that face New Jersey veterans," said US Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01), member of the House Committee on Armed Services. "We have a responsibility to ensure that every one of the brave men and women who serve our country have the tools they need to build a better life for themselves and their loved ones."
"A good-paying job is critical for a veteran transitioning to civilian life," said US Congressman Tom MacArthur (NJ-03), member of the House Committee on Armed Services. "The GI Go Fund and Uber are making it easier for these individuals to bring their unparalleled discipline, abilities and drive to the private sector."
"Supporting our veterans is a top priority for everyone in New Jersey," said Senator James Beach, "Uber, JobPath and The GI Go Fund should be lauded for their efforts to help those in our military community find the jobs they need."
"Here in New Jersey, we're always searching for better ways to support our veterans and members of the military," said NJ Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker, who serves as the Chairwoman of the Assembly's Veterans Affairs Committee. "It's inspiring to see this collaboration between Uber, JobPath, and The GI Go Fund, bringing more jobs and flexible income opportunities for those who need them most."
""The partnership between JobPath, The GI Go Fund and Uber should serve as a model for the rest of New Jersey," said Brick Township Mayor John Ducey. "Veterans across the state deserve every chance they can get to lift themselves up, and this partnership will help do the important work of helping veterans find employment."
