Joel Landau & The Allure Group Celebrate The Future of Aging
NEW YORK, Jan. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The graying of America continues. As Baby Boomers age (and as the birth rate within the United States continues to dwindle), one study shows that 25 to 29 percent of the population will be 60 or older in 2050, up from less than 20 percent in 2012.
Technology is evolving to meet the growing needs of older Americans, and The Allure Group, under the direction of CEO and founder Joel Landau, is at the forefront of that trend. Allure, in fact, remains committed to improving the quality of life of its patients and residents by keeping them in touch with not only the latest advances but also their heritage.
One cutting-edge example of the latter is Salud Latina, a program that allows Hispanic residents and patients to receive sub-acute nursing, short-term rehabilitation and long-term care from bilingual healthcare professionals at a 52-bed unit within the Crown Heights facility.
Also, Salud Latina's environment reflects Hispanic tradition and style—from the cuisine and reading materials the center provides to its Spanish-language religious services.
In a recent blog post on JoelLandau.com about how the Salud Latina program helps provide the comforts of home (and culture) for its residents, The Allure Group's Joel Landau writes:
Hispanics and Latinos comprise over a quarter of New York City's population at 27.5%, many of whom are immigrants or speak Spanish as a first language. New York City is home to the most foreign-born senior citizens by far: at 463,000, roughly one in ten older immigrants live here. It is also the largest Hispanic city in the US. In the last decade, the number of older Latinos grew by 58%.
Joel Landau believes that the "treat in place" approach of The Bedford Center is an excellent model of care for facilities in New York City and beyond who wish to offer residents the individual attention so essential for them to thrive. For example, Landau points to The Bedford Center's distinct amenities for Jewish residents and patients—namely, a renovated shul where worshippers can gather as many as three times a day, and traditional holiday experiences for every Yomim Tovim in the Jewish calendar year.
Kosher food and holiday meals are also available to residents of The Bedford Center, which is located in Brooklyn. The meals are courtesy of a kitchen that is overseen by a full-time Mashgiach (under the guidance of the Viener Dayan of Monsey, R' Menachem Fisher).
Also in Brooklyn, The Allure Group's Hamilton Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a location is near and dear to Joel Landau's heart. As a thriving home to The Longevity Garden which caters to the Asian community, this Allure location boasts a team of registered nurse managers fluent in English and various Chinese dialects are on hand. The food and reading material is likewise geared toward Asian residents and patients, and the activities and programs are bilingual.
In the technology realm, The Allure Group first implemented the EarlySense contact-free patient monitoring system at the Bedford facility in late 2017, with the expectation that Allure's other facilities would follow. EarlySense, which has yet to be fully adopted by any other nursing facility in Manhattan or Brooklyn, is an innovative system that allows staffers to track patients' vital signs through sensors that can easily be placed under a cushion or pillow.
EarlySense precludes patients from having to have their blood pressure, or respiratory rate checked multiple times each day. All of the data is instead collected through the sensor-based system.
Statistics to date have shown that EarlySense has resulted in a 45-percent reduction in patient falls, a 60-percent reduction in pressure ulcer development and an 80-percent reduction in Code Blue events.
Another innovation available at the Bedford facility is Jintronix, a Kinect rehabilitation system that includes therapeutic games and activities that assist in physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Patients are motivated to exercise harder and longer because it is enjoyable and easy to use.
In his passion for providing cutting edge and resident-friendly senior care, Joel Landau has been primarily inspired by his experience as a caretaker for his grandfather. That is why Landau leads The Allure Group to be in the vanguard of providing care that is both state of the art in its technology and distinctively meaningful for its residents.
