JogNog Science Challenge: An Educational Technology Success Story
Lynnfield, MA (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- As the school year draws to a close across the country, the JogNog Science Challenge completes its fourth year of helping students excel on standardized tests. JogNog, a leading digital learning app, stated that schools that participated in the challenge can expect an average 3.5 percent improvement over the average change in student proficiency on the statewide test.
Besides covering the Common Core, the JogNog app helps teachers and students prepare for any national or local curriculum standards-based test. The JogNog Science Challenge was used to encourage students to learn topics relevant to the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) science test.
The JogNog Science Challenge enables students from across the country to compete by completing complex standards-based science quizzes. Over 14,000 students from 429 schools reviewed and correctly answered more than 4.7 million questions in the challenge, with many teachers integrating JogNog quizzes into their daily class assignments. Although a majority of participants were from Massachusetts, students from 44 states competed in the contest, as well as students from countries as diverse as the United Kingdom, India, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.
“We were amazed by the three-fold growth in the number of participating students in this year’s JogNog Science Challenge,” said Stephen Smith, CEO and co-founder of JogNog. “And we were pleased to hear from teachers who reported that students were more confident and better prepared when taking the state standardized tests. We expect these schools to show excellent improvement when the state test results are announced in September.”
Competing students accessed fun and interactive science quizzes on their phones, tablets, and computers. Students were able to compete throughout the entire school year, tracking their school’s progress – and their individual progress – on competition-wide leaderboards.
Even as educational technology (”EdTech”) proliferates in the classroom, some teachers and administrators still question its effectiveness. Despite millions of dollars of investment in computers, tablets, software systems, and apps, teachers are still looking for better ways to teach and motivate their students to study. JogNog is one of the few EdTech apps that has been proven effective in increasing school test scores, according to a multi-year research study on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System tests released in 2013 by JogNog titled 2013 JogNog Science Challenge: An Education App Proven to Increase STEM State Assessment Scores.
