John Muir Charter School is named Charter School of the Year!
Grass Valley, California (PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- John Muir Charter School was awarded the 2015 Hart Vision Award on March 18th at the California Charter School Association conference. This years’ conference was held at the Sacramento Convention Center. This is the annual conference for charter school employees and advocates located throughout the State of California.
Established in 1995, the Hart Vision Awards are named in honor of Gary K. Hart. Hart is a retired California State Senator. While serving as Senator, Hart was one of the sponsored the legislation which ultimately led to charter schools being established in California. He also served as California Secretary of Education.
At this year’s 22nd Annual Charter School Conference, John Muir Charter School was the recipient of the Hart Vision Award for Charter School of the Year. The recognition began with a video highlighting 5 John Muir program sites in northern California. Those sites include Rancho Cielo, a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) site, Western Sierra Youth Build (YB) located in Grass Valley, Monterey California Conservation Corps (CCC) in Watsonville, and San Francisco Urban Conservation Corps (UCC). John Muir Charter School (JMCS) is a WASC accredited charter school. While the Hart Vision Award video highlighted 5 sites, there are over 57 JMCS programs spanning across the State of California. JMCS is a unique program two ways. First, the school provides a direct-instruction program to re-engaging youth ages 16-25. Secondly, JMCS partners with non-profit organizations that provide additional services to students.
JMCS provides a well-rounded education through a holistic approach for their students. In addition to a creative, standards-based academic program, the school offers special education, mental health counseling, and career pathways services.
