John Muir Event to Discuss Hetch Hetchy and the Future of the O’Shaughnessy Dam
Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- Living Tree Community Foods invites the public to a free presentation and tasting at 7:30pm on May 1st at UC Berkeley’s Faculty Club. Naturalist and former Yosemite ranger, Jim Cogan, will give his personal, interactive presentation entitled Hetch Hetchy: The Valley America Will Never Forget. A tasting of Living Tree Community Food products will follow the presentation. The event is free and open to the public.
Located in the heart of Yosemite, John Muir once described Hetch Hetchy as “one of nature’s rarest and most precious mountain temples.” John Muir fought to preserve Hetch Hetchy as one of the most majestic and diverse ecosystems in the world. Although Muir was unsuccessful in preventing the dam, his efforts sparked the international environmental conservation movement.
Living Tree Community Foods’ almonds, walnuts, pecans and pistachios are grown just 100 miles away from this controversial dam. “It is our privilege to support California family farmers,” says CEO Jesse Schwartz. It is in this spirit that Living Tree Community Foods has invited Jim Cogan to recreate the people, ideas and events that led to the decision to inundate the valley. Cogan will also discuss plans to restore Hetch Hetchy to its original glory.
A community discussion will follow Cogan’s presentation, as well as a tasting of Living Tree Community Foods’ alive, organic nut butters, pestos and chocolates.
