John Still Middle School Students Participate in Bullying Prevention Workshop
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) June 22, 2017 -- John Still Middle School in Sacramento, CA received the HEAR — Helping Everyone Achieve Respect workshop presented by the Project HEAR Us Foundation and sponsored by John Paul Mitchell Systems for 265 seventh and eighth grade students on June 7th and 9th. Project HEAR Us is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to bring proven, research-based tools for combatting bullying to all schools and communities regardless of prevailing financial limitations and other resource constraints. Project HEAR Us teamed with the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Making Caring Common Project and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in creating a dynamic, classroom instruction model to present proven bullying prevention programs in middle schools.
“Bullying exacts a huge toll on our youth, and we all have a role to play in combatting bullying and enhancing respectful behavior – from parents to educators to community leaders,” said Jimmy Shafe of Project HEAR Us Foundation.
HEAR is a 50-minute, research-based, interactive presentation that covers the impact of prosocial behaviors, how to recognize bullying and its consequences, and helping students construct good strategies for minimizing bullying and enhancing respectful behavior.
Dr. Josephine Jones, Coordinator of the Student Services Support Center, expressed her gratitude saying, “HEAR supported John Still students’ continued awareness of the appropriate responses to bullying. The workshop also provided tools for students to establish personal accountability, to stand up for others, and be leaders in their campus and community to stop bullying. We are very grateful to John Paul Mitchell Systems and the Project HEAR Us Foundation for making this possible.”
Julie Solwold, VP of John Paul Mitchell Systems, stated, “We are so excited to be able to play a role in promoting love, peace, and acceptance through partnering to bring the HEAR workshop to John Still Middle School in Sacramento! I can’t think of a better way to impact the health of our youth than preventing bullying in our schools and communities.”
Ms. Solwold further encouraged reviewing the Paul Mitchell virtual wall at http://www.neonvirtualwall.tumblr.com. Students can place notes of encouragement and support to others through this online medium.
