Johnny Bueno Color Studio Highlights Social Media Use to Build Celebrity Clientele
San Francisco, California (PRWEB) December 17, 2013 -- Getting a celebrity clientele is a dream of most hair stylists, and one that noted San Francisco colorist Johnny Bueno discovered by accident.
“I was watching Bravo TV’s “Real Housewives of DC” and just thought Michaele Salahi was fantastic!” Bueno shares. I found her fan page on Facebook and sent her a message and within a few hours, she had responded to me directly!”
Thus began the friendship of Bueno and Salahi, one that lasted through her divorce and resulted in Team Bueno doing the hair of the entire wedding party at Salahi’s wedding to Journey guitarist Neal Schon this past weekend in San Francisco.
“I never imagined that my late night chatter on Facebook would evolve into business for the salon,” Bueno says. “But once I realized that social media was leveling the playing field, I thought ‘there might be potential here’.”
And potential there was. Bueno began reaching out to celebrities through his various media outlets and the impact on his business has grown to include not just reality TV stars but politicians, musicians and luminaries from all walks of life.
Bueno shares five tips for meeting and keeping a high-profile clientele:
1) Be Authentic. “People today are much more social media-savvy than they have been in the past,” Bueno says. “I know a lot of people that try and be what they think people want them to be, both online and off. I think by a lot of celebrities use social media to connect in a more personal way with their fans, and they appreciate when people speak to them like real people.”
2) Learn How to Avoid the Guard Dogs. “Not every celebrity social media presence is a direct link to the celebrity. Some people are just to busy or don’t yet see the value of a personal online presence.” Bueno suggests identifying the people you want to connect with and then following them for a while. “I remember the first time I saw Miley Cyrus on Twitter. I thought, no way is she actually managing this. But after a few days of following her you realize with the content she shares, there is no way this could be anyone BUT Miley.”
3) Stand Out. “The services we offer are some of the best in the country, but the reality is, if we want people to come to San Francisco to come to our studio, our value lies in standing out,” Bueno explains. “We make a commitment to go above and beyond for our clients. When Michaele asked us to do the hair at her wedding, I contacted all of our vendors and asked them to help us create a gift bag that we could give to everyone in the wedding party.”
4) Be Grateful. “Never underestimate the power of a ‘thank you’. The next day, after that first night chatting with Michaele, I sent her a heartfelt thank you. She replied by asking if we could get together when she was in the Bay Area next. I think as people, we genuinely want to help others, but when that person being helped appreciates it, we want to do it again and again.”
5) Make an Offline Connection. Bueno is emphatic that this is the key to taking your personal relationship to the next level. “I generally try and offer something to the celebrity that I have connected to. With Michaele, I offered to do her hair for an event the next time she was in the Bay Area. Another think I like to do is offer to send a gift. We have these 'BUENO' t-shirts that I offer to the different people I come into contact with. The shirt was most recently featured on Perez Hilton’s blog! For me, it is such a small thing to do, but people seem to really love them and so many of my personal relationships have been enhanced with the Bueno T.”
