Join New York artist Diana Wege to form a CIRCLE OF PEACE in New York
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 20, 2017 -- Diana Wege (dianawege.com) an artist and the founder and Chair of the Board of WOVEN, We Oppose Violence Everywhere Now (wovenow.org) has announced the second Circle of Peace being held on the International Day of Peace, Thursday, 21 September. WOVEN, its allies, and citizens of New York City will gather and join hands to form a Circle of Peace, gathering at 6:00 pm at Seabury Park at the corner of 96th Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
WOVEN (We Oppose Violence Everywhere Now) is a nonprofit organization building a network to stop violence. WOVEN believes we have a collective capacity to reject all kinds of violence in our communities. Built on this belief, WOVEN is a platform for peace and anti-violence workers, artists, activists and citizens of the resistance to collaborate and unite around solutions for peace.
The Circle of Peace will be a loud and clear demonstration of unity, solidarity, brother/sisterhood and a defiance of all forms of violence and hatred. The message we will send is clear: Violence is our enemy, not each other. We must all unite and stand together after Charlottesville and in the face of an administration that is working to tear us apart.
Diana Wege commented: “My goal is to unify all religions, not to select one to discriminate against. Our demonstration is a response to what we oppose and what actions are in conflict with our established principles of WOVEN – to reject violence and finds solutions for peace in all aspects of our lives.”
On August 12, we witnessed a horrendous display of hatred, bigotry and violence. Over the last eight months, our administration has bolstered the normalization of discrimination based on religion, race, gender and creed, emboldening hate groups across America to threaten marginalized communities and further divide the American people.”
WOVEN is a digital platform that provides resources, support and platforms to weave together individuals, communities and institutions who collaboratively work to identify peaceful resolutions to conflict. WOVEN was launched in 2013 as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit by artist Diana Wege, when she made a committed to use art and culture as a means of promoting nonviolence and harnessing the collective power of compassion through education and public platforms.
