Jones Coffee Roasters Debuts /Kuhl-er/, New Exhibition Celebrating Local Artists on April 30 in Pasadena
Pasadena, Calif. (PRWEB) April 24, 2015 -- Jones Coffee Roasters will showcase the work of local San Gabriel Valley artists with the unveiling of nearly two dozen pieces examining the role color plays in art inspiration and interpretation at a new exhibition opening April 30, 2015 in Pasadena. Titled /kuhl-er/, after the phonetic spelling of the word “color,” the exhibition includes a mix of original pieces that convey whimsy, spontaneity, boldness and sensuality and spark reflection on how color can influence the viewer’s experience.
The /kuhl-er/ exhibition features lively and colorful pieces produced from a variety of art mediums including acrylic and oil paintings, silkscreen and mixed media and representing realism, surrealism, expressionism and abstract art styles. The new collection is the latest in an ongoing series of events held at Jones Coffee Roasters, celebrating local artists and debuting their new art to the public.
Participating artists include Robert D. Nydam of Sierra Madre and Barbi Taylor of Pasadena. Created over a two-year period, Nydam’s paintings draw inspiration from nature, scientific ideas and universal elements and feature a layering technique to create depth and complexity. Depictions of insects, birds and buffalo conquer up a feeling of a quirky, long lost guidebook of creatures and colors almost forgotten. An artist who has translated his life experiences through his work since he was a young child, Nydam spends up to 20 hours a week in his studio, creating new pieces of art.
From tranquil scenes on the water, majestic mountains and figures placed in bizarre or dreamlike settings, the work of Barbi Taylor uses contrast and strong color as a vehicle to tell a story about the human experience. Taylor’s paintings are derived from photographs she has taken and then manipulated with bright and pure colors to create visually stimulating works of art that provoke viewers to think differently about what they are seeing.
“This unique and freshly curated exhibition offers a new approach to the understanding and presentation of color in art,” said Chuck Jones, owner of Jones Coffee Roasters. “We’re proud to support these two highly talented local artists and to give the Jones Coffee Roasters community an opportunity to be inspired by their work.”
The new exhibition will be showcased at Jones Coffee Roasters located at 693 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena. The show will open at a special reception on Thursday, April 30 at 7 p.m., and the artwork will be on display through the end of May. The event is free and open to the public.
