He then escapes, Icarus-like, to the Emerald Coast and sets out to live a new life as a totally different man named Jeff Miller.
There he will live in contravention of every rule of the young urban professional’s life, working as a crew member for a fishing boat and moonlighting as a nightclub pianist. He even meets the new love of his life in the beautiful singer Sally Forrest. He becomes involved, semi-heroically, in helping senior citizens being victimized by a scam artist and also foils a scheme involving forged drug prescriptions. Working with law enforcement officials, Steve uncovers a plan to involve college coeds in dangerous and illegal activity, and stops physicians who are performing bogus surgery.
Everything seems perfect indeed: Steve has a new identity as sporty, die-hard romantic; he is a hero of sorts, and everyone he previously knew thought he was dead. That is, everyone except Vickie. Suspecting her husband is still alive and wanting to know the truth of his leaving, she sets out to track him down accompanied by the equally suspicious insurance investigator Nick Sullivan. The plot thickens irresistibly among a surprisingly likable set of characters –Thomas Campbell manages the rare feat of having no real villains on his stage. The bathos of Vickie, the forlorn abandoned wife who becomes wily husband-hound is something to behold in any current fiction worth anyone’s salt. Plus, a riotous high tide scene shows off everything, all at once–every trick of genius that Campbell has down pat. “Escape to the Redneck Riviera” is a movable feast for the eternally hip.

About the Author
Thomas M. Campbell is a lifelong Tulsan but knows the Florida Panhandle well because of many vacation trips. He has three daughters, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Charlotte, his wife of fifty-three years, died in December 2011.During a writing careers spanning nearly a half century, Campbell has worked as a sports writer for two major newspapers and in editorial, public relations, and marketing management positions for the U.S. Jaycees, Cities Service Company, and Tulsa Regional Medical Center, which is now the Oklahoma State University Medical Center.Tom wrote the first complete history of the Jaycee movement and co-authored with his sister, the late Mary Elizabeth Wieman, a history of Tulsa Regional.Campbell has a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University and master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Tulsa.
