Joyce I. Payne Pens Book about London Film-Makers’ Co-operative

DORKING, England (PRWEB) December 04, 2015 -- Author Joyce I. Payne discovered the innovative films created by artists and others who are interested in the possibilities of the moving image at the London Film-Makers Co-operative during a 30-year period from 1966 to 1996. Such discovery prompted her in writing “REEL REBELS: THE LONDON FILM-MAKERS' CO-OPERATIVE 1966 TO 1996” (published by AuthorHouse UK).

This book discusses the methods and materials employed by Co-op film-makers to create their many short experimental or avant-garde films, despite their lack of resources. Their films became known as 'artists' films' as many film-makers had trained at art schools and colleges. They sought to maintain autonomy over the production, distribution and exhibition of their work.

About the Author
Joyce I. Payne was born in South Africa and grew up in Rhodesia. She has lived in England since 1979 and now lives in Dorking. She studied with the Open University for some years during which time she was awarded a BA degree, an MA degree as well as a PhD in history. She was a curator of the Stanley Picker Art Gallery in Kingston from 1981 until 2008, after which she worked part-time at the gallery until her retirement in 2010.
