JPMA Educates Families About Baby Safety Month
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (PRWEB) September 06, 2017 -- Child safety devices, like safety belts and straps, should be used on baby gear each and every time to reduce the risk of infant fall injuries. That is the potentially lifesaving message of this year’s Baby Safety Month, celebrated each September by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA).
The fact is, falls are still the leading cause of non-fatal injuries for all young children in the U.S. Approximately 8,000 children are treated in emergency rooms for fall-related injuries every day. With these staggering statistics, parents should be confident they are using baby gear correctly to ensure their child’s safety.
Whether it's in the home or on the go, JPMA provides these tips when strapping baby into juvenile products such as car seats, strollers, carriers, high chairs, changing tables, bouncers or swings:
- Direct supervision is the best way to prevent injuries.
- Child safety devices, like safety belts and straps, should always be used when available.
- For the safest product use, be sure to read and follow all manufacturer's instructions and warning labels, including minimum and maximum weight and age requirements.
According to a recent August 2017 BabyCenter.com/JPMA poll, nearly 93% of moms strap baby into the car seat, 75% of moms strap baby into the stroller, and only 56% of moms strap baby into their high chair!
“This poll proves that parents need to be educated on how important strapping baby in every time really is,” said Kelly Mariotti, JPMA Executive Director. “Helping parents understand the importance of properly using straps on a variety of products and the importance of correctly using them every time will avoid preventable fall injuries.”

- The importance of properly using straps on all juvenile products.
- What parents need to know about keeping infants and children securely fastened while at home, on the go, or in the car.
- Safety concerns with leaving children unattended or not properly using the straps on juvenile products as intended.
