Judy’s Mission Launches B4S4 Campaign for Ovarian Cancer Awareness
Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 08, 2016 -- Judy’s Mission Ovarian Cancer Foundation is kicking off Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month this September with its #B4S4 (Before Stage 4) social media campaign to raise awareness about symptoms of ovarian cancer and the importance of early detection. When ovarian cancer is caught in Stage I, 93 percent of patients survive five years or longer. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, in collaboration with In the Pink of Health, provided the funds for the month-long social media push, which targets women ages 35-55 in Montgomery County with interest in cancer awareness.
“We are so grateful for our partnership with In the Pink of Health that began when the organization added a focus on ovarian cancer to its mission two years ago," said Aimee Friend, executive director of Judy's Mission Ovarian Cancer Foundation. "These funds will allow us to execute a campaign to increase awareness and understanding about the risk factors, signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Through this initiative, we will be able to educate and inform thousands of women in Montgomery County about a disease that is difficult to detect and often misdiagnosed.”
There is currently no screening available for ovarian cancer, which means many cases go undetected until stage III or stage IV. Educating women to recognize the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer is critical for early detection.
Risk of ovarian cancer increases for women over 50, those who have a family history of ovarian cancer, women who have inherited mutations in the BRCA1 of BRCA2 genes, women of Northern European and/or Ashkenazi Jewish heritage and women who have never been pregnant.

About Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is the deadliest form of gynecological cancer due to the fact that there is no effective means of screening and it is normally not caught until Stage III or IV. Its symptoms are deceptive, as they can be attributed to common female issues, such as weight gain, hormonal imbalance and menstrual cycle. For this reason, it’s said that ovarian cancer is a silent killer with symptoms that whisper.
