Julia Adler-Milstein, PhD, Named First Winner of Seema S. Sonnad Emerging Leader in Managed Care Research Award
Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) October 29, 2015 -- The American Journal of Managed Care, at the celebration of its 20th anniversary of publication, presented Julia Adler-Milstein, PhD, of the University of Michigan with the first Seema S. Sonnad Emerging Leader in Managed Care Research Award.
Dr. Adler-Milstein, who received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her PhD in health policy from Harvard University in 2011, is an assistant professor of information, School of Information, and assistant professor of health management and policy, School of Public Health, at the University of Michigan. She is an expert in the use of information technology (IT) in improving healthcare delivery, an area of immense importance as healthcare moves from a system of fee-for-service to one of value-based care.
Before graduate school, Dr. Adler-Milstein worked at the Center for IT Leadership at Partners Healthcare in Boston and in the Health and Life Sciences Division of Accenture. She has written extensively on implementation issues for health IT, on its ability to bend the cost curve, and on implications for chronic care management.
Dr. Adler-Milstein is well-known to The American Journal of Managed Care, having served as a reviewer and as the 2014 guest editor of the annual special issue on health IT.

The Seema S. Sonnad Emerging Leader in Managed Care Research Award is named for the journal’s former associate editor, who passed away in June. Dr. Sonnad had advocated for the creation of an award to honor a young investigator.
The award was formally presented at a reception of the journal’s editorial board and leadership, contributors, and guests in Orlando, Florida.
