Junior League of Boston Drives Strong Community Collaboration to Effect Change
Boston, Massachusetts (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- The Junior League of Boston, a 110 year old women’s volunteer organization that improves the community through effective action of trained volunteers, announced members who will serve as part of the greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s City Awake Delegates program. This is one example of Junior League of Boston (JL Boston) growing its legacy of impact, partnering with civic leadership programs and supporting its 1000 members to be catalysts in the Greater Boston community. Going into its 2016-2017 year of service JL Boston is replicating its successful girl mentoring programs across new neighborhoods and looks to be an incubator and connector with other non-profits by stewarding information on community needs and sharing it resources with organizations that share is mission.
“We are excited to build on our 110 year history of evolving to address critical community needs in Greater Boston. JL Boston is being agile and listening to our internal and external community.” – Pamela (Giasson) Lynch, President JL Boston said.
City Awake Delegates is a nine-month interactive platform designed to mobilize and empower young adults to become valued stakeholders in the civic dialogue of Greater Boston. JL Boston thanks the following members for boldly accepting this leadership nomination, which begins September 26, 2016: Jane Theriault, Sarah Perkins, Lauren Restrepo, Emily Mann, Jessica Buno Ralston, Tali Lekorenos, Caitlin Berger, Brianne Bartlett, and Corinne Stemen.
On Sunday, September 11, 2016 JL Boston hosted Dinner and a Dialogue: Enabling Boston’s Youth to Envision a Brighter Tomorrow at their renovated brownstone HQ on Newbury Street. With community partners, JL Boston Board of Directors, local leaders and the Association of Junior Leagues International President, Carol Scott, the team discussed indicators of thriving children and strategies to strengthen youth in our surrounding communities. The next night, JL Boston kicked off the year with the first General Membership Meeting with over 220 members. Longstanding member, Virginia Harris, spoke about advocating for children around the world and attributed the start of her successful career to her experience volunteering with the Junior League.
JL Boston’s vision is that every girl has the skills and confidence to thrive at life. Through Leader Within, a JL Boston signature program, offered in collaboration with Boston Boys and Girls Club of Blue Hill, Excel Academy and Salesian Boys and Girls Club, girls learn leadership skills that visibly build confidence levels in the participants. New this year, JL Boston is launching a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math)-focused mentoring program which will look to build girls’ confidence in a different way by exploring these fields with a hands-on approach. If you would like to sponsor a JL Boston program or would like to see a program replicated in your neighborhood, please contact: info(at)jlboston(dot)org.
