Justin Brice Guariglia, Artist Whose Work Explores the Planet’s Environmental Crisis, to Speak at 2017 Global Wellness Summit
Miami, FL (PRWEB) September 06, 2017 -- The Global Wellness Summit today announced that award-winning artist, Justin Brice Guariglia, whose powerful mixed media works explore climate change and the complex impact humans have had on the planet, will speak at the conference being held at The Breakers Palm Beach from Oct. 9-11. Guariglia’s talk on day one of the Summit is entitled “What Have We Wrought? The Price of Humankind’s Path towards Accelerated Modernization.”
And that evening, conference delegates will have an extraordinary opportunity: a private tour of Guariglia’s new show, “Earth Works: Mapping the Anthropocene," at West Palm Beach’s the Norton Museum of Art. This timely, haunting series of 22 works, from an artist that flew seven times with NASA to photograph Greenland’s melting polar ice caps, explores how Earth has been transformed by humans (the Anthropocene Age): from melting glaciers to the scars of strip mining. Guariglia’s work on our planet’s ecological crisis, which blurs the line between photography and painting, has been attracting serious attention in the art world, as evidenced by this week’s profile of him in The New York Times, where Beatrice Galilee, curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, called his works “beautiful but terrifying.”

Conference delegates will have the Norton Museum of Art to themselves the evening of October 9, where the Earth Works tour kicks off with a conversation in the museum’s theater between Guariglia and exhibition curator, Tim B. Wride. (Delegates will also have the option to experience highlights from the museum’s European and American masterpieces, from Matisse and Picasso to Hopper and O’Keefe.)

Guariglia, who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, is a trans-disciplinary artist working at the nexus of painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. His work explores ecology through the lens of politics, culture, science, journalism, mythology and art history, and his experimentation with materials and processes forge new ways of seeing and experiencing the world. Guariglia’s work is in the collections of the Norton Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and numerous private collections. He was awarded the Howard Foundation Fellowship in Photography for the 2017-2018 academic year at Brown University and a Science Sandbox @ New Lab Fellowship in 2017.
