Kalsi Engineering Introduces KLS™ High Pressure Lip Seals for Rotary Service
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) March 30, 2016 -- Sugar Land-based Kalsi Engineering, an industry-leading consulting engineering firm and manufacturer of rotary seals for the oil and gas industry, has recently introduced its latest seal technology, the KLS series high pressure lip seal.
KLS lip seals are spring-loaded and can seal fluid pressures of up to 1000 PSI ( 6.89 MPa) when used in applications that feature unidirectional rotation, and have undergone extensive testing at rotational speeds of 543 feet per minute (2.76 M/S).
The ability to maintain a seal at such a high pressure differential is due to the unique construction of the KLS lip seals. They are made from a combination of extrusion-resistant plastic and elastomer. They incorporate a patented wave geometry that provides hydrodynamic interfacial lubrication from the low pressure side of the seal. Without the efficient lubrication of the dynamic sealing interface provided by the wave technology, similar seals with the same cross-sectional profile fail within hours at a much lower pressure of 500 PSI. Initial loading of the dynamic lip against the shaft is provided by a V-shaped spring.
"For applications in which clean pressurized fluids must be retained, only one KLS seal is necessary, and it can be lubricated with a simple unpressurized lubrication system," said John Schroeder, Kalsi Seal Global Business Development Manager.
