Karen A. Holbrook, Raymond Orbach, Richard A. Meserve Named to CRDF Global Board of Directors
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) January 22, 2015 -- CRDF Global announced today that Dr. Karen A. Holbrook, Dr. Raymond Orbach and Dr. Richard A. Meserve have joined its board of directors. Each new board member brings extensive experience in CRDF Global program initiatives and many of the more than 40 countries where it works. CRDF Global is an independent nonprofit organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration through grants, technical resources, training and services.
Dr. Karen A. Holbrook is a higher education consultant and Senior Advisor to the President at the University of South Florida, where she was previously Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation, then Senior Vice President for Global Affairs and International Research. Dr. Holbrook is a past President of The Ohio State University.
Dr. Raymond Orbach is the founding director of The University of Texas at Austin's Energy Institute. He has joint appointments as a professor with tenure in the Cockrell School’s Department of Mechanical Engineering; the College of Natural Sciences’ Physics Department; and the Jackson School of Geosciences. Previously, Dr. Orbach was Director of the Office of Science at the Department of Energy, and was the Department of Energy's first Under Secretary for Science.
Dr. Richard A. Meserve is the President Emeritus of the Carnegie Institution for Science, having served from 2003 to 2014. The Carnegie Institution conducts basic research in biology, astronomy and geophysics. Dr. Meserve formerly served as Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Before joining the NRC, Dr. Meserve was a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm Covington & Burling LLP, and now serves as Senior of Counsel on a part-time basis.
Also, in November 2014, the CRDF Global board of directors elected new officers for 2015-2016. Paul Longsworth, Vice President, International Environmental / Nuclear, Fluor Corporation, will serve as board chair. Mr. Longsworth has 25 years of experience in energy, environmental, national security and nonproliferation matters. He has worked in the private sector as well as the executive and legislative branches of government. Dr. Rod Nichols, President Emeritus, New York Academy of Sciences, will serve as vice chair. The board elected Dr. Anne Peterson, Research Professor, Center for Human Growth and Development, University of Michigan, as secretary, and Ms. Cathy Mannick, General Counsel & Chief Administrative Officer, AcadiaSoft, Inc., as treasurer.
Longtime board co-chair, Dr. William Wulf, President Emeritus, National Academy of Engineering, rotated off the board and has joined the CRDF Global advisory council.
