Katie Couric to Host The Kingsbury Center’s 75th Anniversary Gala September 26 in Washington, DC
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- Her Excellency Ritva Koukku-Ronde, The Ambassador of Finland to the United States, and Katie Couric, Master of Ceremonies, will host a 75th Anniversary Awards Gala recognizing four distinguished honorees for their support of The Kingsbury Center, a local non-profit education organization dedicated to providing a transformative educational and social experience for children and adults with learning differences.
Kingsbury's Awards Dinner and Gala will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at the Embassy of Finland, 3301 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, 20008.
Katie Couric will present awards to four honorees, each of whom has made significant contributions in the field of learning disabilities and for Kingsbury:
• Dr. Mark Batshaw, Physician-in-Chief, Children’s National Medical Center
• Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA), Co-Chair, Congressional Dyslexia Caucus
• Congressman William Cassidy (LA), Co-Chair, Co-Founder Congressional Dyslexia Caucus
• Debra Lee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BET Networks
At the Anniversary Gala, Ambassador Koukku-Ronde will unveil the establishment of an Educational and Cultural Exchange Fellowship between Finland and the United States. Kingsbury will be the first school to participate. The Niilo Maki Institute, University of Jyvaskyla, will host a Kingsbury teacher in Finland for three months in 2014, for the purpose of sharing information on how students with learning differences are educated in Finland and the United States.
The 75th Anniversary Awards Gala will help raise funds for the Kingsbury Day School as well as the Tutoring, Diagnostic Testing and Psychological Services Divisions of The Kingsbury Center.
Katie Couric's brother, John Couric, chairs The Kingsbury Center's Board of Trustees. "Over its 75-year history, Kingsbury has helped transform the lives of more than 10,000 children and adults with learning difficulties. I visited the center this past spring and was so impressed to see how students are supported both intellectually and emotionally," said Katie Couric.
