Keep Scottsdale Beautiful and American Textile Recycling Service Announce Over 21,000 Shoes Collected During the Super Scottsdale Shoe Drive
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) February 13, 2015 -- American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS) has been turning clothing, shoes and other household textiles into funding for non-profit organizations since its inception in 2001. In partnership with Keep Scottsdale Beautiful, Arizonians were invited to donate their unwanted shoes this past month into specially designated Super Scottsdale Shoe Drive Bins throughout the city to raise funds to resurface the Family Promise Center Basketball Court.
Over 10,000 shoes were collected from these designated bins in conjunction with 11,000 from ATRS Recycling bins. These shoes were transported and counted on the Scottsdale Community College football field in Scottsdale, AZ. Shoes were donated by local families and community members at approximately 100 designated drop locations including the Scottsdale Public Libraries and several Prestige Cleaners locations. These shoes will be reused, repurposed and recycled by ATRS Recycling. Every pair collected will generate much-needed funding for Keep Scottsdale Beautiful to resurface the basketball court at Family Promise, an organization that provides aid to homeless families.
Thanks to citywide participation and community support for this campaign, over 21,000 unwanted sneakers, sandals and other shoes were diverted from local municipal landfills in just over a month. ATRS and Keep Scottsdale Beautiful would like to thank participating businesses, property managers and volunteers that made this campaign a success as well as the families, students and schools that turned their unwanted shoes in to support the only homeless shelter in Scottsdale.
"Thanks to community support for this program, we are now able to turn these unwanted shoes into assets. Many will be reused by people in need, others will be given a new life as a new product," says Robby Milner, Arizona Market Team Manager, "This is a great example of what our community can accomplish when we work together to support local families and residents in need."
ATRS Clothing & Shoe Recyclers are located throughout the State of Arizona and provide year round drop-off points for gently used, outgrown and unwanted clothing, shoes, toys and household textiles. Each recycler provides an ongoing monthly stream of revenue for local charities like Sedona Recycles, The Weldon House and Catholic Community Charities Services.
