KegWorks Declares July the (Un)official Month of Gin and Tonics
Buffalo, New York (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- KegWorks, a Buffalo-based company that offers a wide range of cocktail supplies, specialty sodas, and other drinking delicacies, has been an advocate for the gin and tonic cocktail for years. Their annual Gin and Tonic July campaign celebrates this summery cocktail and encourages drinkers to elevate their G&T experience with better tasting, more authentic ingredients.
Last year, the company built a website called ginandtonicjuly.com. The site offers an educational look at the cocktail’s rich history, recipe variations, food pairing & garnish ideas, a tonic guide, a list of alternative gin cocktail recipes, an infographic, and a comprehensive gin and tonic party guide.
Why all this hype around gin and tonics? And why July? “It’s simple,” says KegWorks President and Minister of Culture, David Rivers. “Because July is the signal of summer, and the gin and tonic is one of the most refreshing, yet underrated cocktails out there.”
The drink is often ignored because so many people claim to dislike the taste of tonic. “That’s why quality tonic water is the crux of our campaign,” says Rivers. “I always tell people, ‘You haven’t had a real G&T until you’ve had one made with premium tonic. The stuff from the corner store or a soda gun doesn’t count.’ I’ve converted plenty of cynics with premium brands like Fever Tree, Fentimans, and Tomr's."
The tonic water found in most bars and supermarkets is made with fake sugar and other artificial ingredients. These brands are missing tonic’s most authentic ingredient, quinine, extracted originally from the Peruvian Quinquina tree in the 1600s. Without this ingredient, the aversion to tonic water is understandable, but according to Rivers and the team at KegWorks, you’ve got to give the good stuff a try. “After you have, you’ll understand why the drink has it’s own month.”
