Keil Lasik Vision Center Gives Their Fifth Annual “Gift of Sight” Donation to Brandon Riemer to Help Those in Madagascar
Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) February 19, 2015 -- Keil Lasik Vision Center celebrated the 2014 holiday season by continuing their efforts to help the global community. This is the fifth year that Keil Lasik has offered the “Gift of Sight”, a promotion that gives life changing cataract surgery to those who cannot afford it. For every patient that scheduled a free Lasik exam at Keil Lasik during the holiday season, Dr. Michael Keil made a donation to allow someone less fortunate to have vision restoring surgery.
Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the world. A cataract is a clouding of the lens, usually related to aging. In the United States, cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed ophthalmic procedures and helps many Americans regain their sight. Dr. Keil explains, “Blindness due to cataracts is a widespread problem, but it is a problem that can be corrected.”
Last year’s donation went to Mercy Ships, an international charity that uses hospital ships to travel around the world to bring hope and healing to those less fortunate in developing nations. MetroHealth Ophthalmology resident, Nathan Cleaveland, D.O., and attending physician, Ralph Crew, D.O., were awarded the proceeds from last year’s donation to travel on a Mercy Ship to perform cataract eye surgeries to the people of Africa.
Dr Keil and his team are proud to announce that for the fifth year in a row a donation has been made to give the gift of sight. This year Dr. Keil will continue to donate to Mercy Ships and is supporting Brandon Riemer who is going on a medical mission to Madagascar. He is set to leave at the end of January. Every year Dr. Keil strives to reach out to his global community to help those in need. He hopes to continue this tradition for many years to come.
