Keiser University’s Rollie Massimino is Nominated for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
West Palm Beach, Florida (PRWEB) January 06, 2016 -- Keiser University proudly announces that the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Rollie Massimino, of their Flagship Campus, has been nominated for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2016.
To start a year-long celebration towards 125 years of basketball, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has announced the eligible candidates for the Class of 2016. Head Men's Basketball coach, Rollie Massimino, is one of 44 nominees for this class.
Finalists will be announced during NBA All-Star Weekend in February and inductees including those selected by the direct elect committees will be revealed on April 4, the day of the NCAA men's championship game. Enshrinement festivities will take place in Springfield, Mass., the birthplace of basketball, September 8-10, 2016.
In his tenure with the Seahawks, the team has produced a 256-61 record, with runs to the national semifinals and finals. In 2011 with the Seahawks, coach Massimino was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year and earned the Rawlings National Coach of the Year in 2012.
“Coach Massimino became the 39th coach to record 700 career wins, and became just the third coach in college basketball history to reach the 700-win plateau and win an NCAA National Championship during their coaching career,” stated Tom Duncan, Campus President.
In 1985, Massimino was tabbed National Coach of the Year by both MacGregor Sporting Goods and Playboy magazine for leading Villanova to a National Championship. Before that in 1982 he earned Big East Coach of the Year accolades, just one of eight times he was honored on a league basis in the NCAA.
In October of 2015, Keiser University achieved its long-term goal of establishing its first residential campus in the state of Florida with its acquisition of Northwood University’s West Palm Beach campus. The Flagship campus is KU’s second West Palm Beach location with an existing campus on Vista Parkway. Recent activity with the men’s basketball team included #22 KU winning their second straight tournament with a 79-74 win over Florida National University in the English Family Classic. The Seahwaks improved to 14-1 overall on the year. The next game will take place on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at Johnson & Wales University in Hialeah.
KU is equally proud of the men’s golf team, for the first time in Seahawk history, being ranked first in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Coaches Poll and the current national champion women’s golf team remains ranked first in the NAIA Coaches Poll.
