Kelly's Filmworks' 'READING KATE': An Inspirational Film Noir That Tests the Status Quo of the Faith-Based Genre
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) October 14, 2015 -- Kelly's Filmworks, known for such inspirational favorites as "The Perfect Stranger", and "Clancy", announces its newest feature, a nontypical film noir entitled, "READING KATE". The movie is slated for screening in late 2015.
"READING KATE" marks the eighth motion picture produced by the husband-and-wife team of Kelly Worthington and Jefferson Moore, who refer to themselves as a 'mom-and-pop studio that loves to find new ways to tell inspirational stories'.
"'Reading Kate' is our first film noir", states Worthington, "and it gave us a whole new palette of ideas to convey the story's message, which is both insightful and relevant to the average person pondering their place in God's universe; we get into some very deep nuances of the human spirit, while, at the same time, framing an emotional storyline into one of our signature 'two-person play' setups."
Worthington's husband (and studio co-founder), Jefferson Moore, directed the film and also penned the screenplay, which was based on a true story.
"We loved shooting the kind of movie where we had the freedom to bend a rule or two", says Moore (who also costars), "it was a liberating workflow, in terms of shooting style, that let us go against convention (for inspirational films) with nods to influences like David Lynch and the Coen Brothers."
Worthington added, "'READING KATE' is a nice 'little' film that takes a look at an adversarial relationship between two people who once loved each other - their chance reconnection takes that relationship into some 'gray area' hills and valleys that beg for black-and-white answers, not the least of which is: 'Can an average, non-religious type person hope to be accepted into Heaven when they die, provided they follow all the standard rules?'
In 'READING KATE', Michael, an out-of-work academic (played by Moore) is summoned to the side of his ex-wife, Kate - a former colleague who walked out of the marriage fifteen years ago. The occasion for the reunion is the fact that Kate may (or may not be) suffering from a debilitating disease and is seeking one last chance to clear the air. Michael agrees, but remains skeptical as to her true motives. What unfolds next lends itself to a series of classic Hepburn and Tracy-style match-ups, complete with spirited rounds of conflict, bitterness, jealousy and ultimately, a quest for eternal peace.
Shot in the classic film noir black-and-white, 'READING KATE' also stars Kelly's Filmworks studio stalwarts like Tom Luce and Aiyanna Flowers, as well as newcomer Megan Massie, as Kate's estranged daughter.
'READING KATE' is set for a contemporary multi-platform release beginning in late 2015.
